Rigging points come first
Most of the rooms we are asked to light were built for something else. Converted barns, glazed conference spaces, function rooms with decorative ceilings. In all of them, the constraint is not which fixture to buy but where anything can physically hang. Starting from the mounting options narrows the choice quickly and avoids the common outcome: excellent fixtures sitting in a flight case because nobody could rig them.
Two scenes beat twenty
Control systems get specified with far more capability than the room will ever use. In a hotel function room, the honest requirement is presentation, dinner and pack-down. Give staff three buttons and they will use the right one. Give them a console and the room will spend the year on whatever preset was last touched.
